Gerd Ljoset, artist, weaver, and salmon-entrepreneur, lives alone in an inherited white house on the island of Lyholmen, off the south-east coast of Norway. The story opens with a crashing storm. It is winter, February. Her best friend and lover, Jonas van der Linden, is worried for her, but then, Jonas always worries. And not without reason.
After making it through the storm, Gerd is out at her deep-ocean salmon-nets when she sees flashes as if someone were signaling her. Investigating, she discovers the body of old Einar Iversen on the floorboards of his fishing boat. Einar was nearly 90 and a heart attack or stroke wouldn’t have been surprising. But almost immediately, tongues start wagging.
A day or two later, Gerd finds retired coastal pilot Joacim Corneliussen being attacked by a shadowy someone. Joacim mutters something unintelligible about the winter of 1942, “the worst winter in memory,” about a German warship, and about “her,” rescued by someone named Frank Åge. Who is this? What happened in 1942? Could events 60 years in the past possibly have anything to do with today’s relationships and troubles? Before she knows what is happening, Gerd is drawn into a maelstrom of bigotry and evil that threatens her life and the lives of others on the small, windswept island.
“I Should Have Told” is intended to be the first in a series of mysteries centered on modern island life off the hard coast of the small Scandinavian nation of Norway. Book 2 in the series will be released in 2013. We won’t reveal the secrets of the book, but a gentle reader might find research into silver mining an interesting pursuit ….

This was a very interesting story with history back several generations. Also different and yet good were the Norwegian words used in the book and they were explained for the most part. Some of the words were either typo'd or maybe just didn't come out right in the translation to English. So will kind of slow you down at places.Product details
